No excuses to skip workout
"Ninety-nine percent of the failures come from the people who have the habit of making excuses" - George Washington Carver
Depending on the facilities available, region of the country you live or the necessary equipment in your possession for training sometime it takes "thinking out of the box" to get practice in. For me, I live in Knoxville, Tennessee and have family living in southern Oregon and the Bay Area of California. Visiting these places in the late fall or early winter typically don't allow for pristine training conditions. This year for the holiday, my family and I went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where I not only got to be in warm sunshine, but I was able to utilize the given conditions to make a more unorthodox, but beneficial training regimen while I was away.
Instead of making excuses to skip training because you don't have the space or equipment, one must get creative. Below is how I utilized the beach/sand, various weighted rocks and a tree for my travel training:
Beach/Sand - mark off 30-40 meters for sprints, 1 leg hops, bounding, broad jumps, triple broad jumps
Rocks - Heavier rocks I used for front squats, back squats, overhead lunges, side lunges, RDLs; Medium to Light rocks I used for single arm shoulder press, front raises, pull overs, curls, skull crushers - Additionally, the rocks were also used for over/under throws (simulating med ball throws for explosiveness)
Tree - Skin the cats and pull ups
No matter where you are, you can always do SOMETHING to help benefit your training regimen. Even if its a long jog, some stretching or throwing rocks on the beach. Instead of making excuses, make it fun! Personally, I had a great time finding new and unconventional ways to train outside of the gym or track which, in turn, made my trip fun and made me feel accomplished!
