When it comes to javelin training, I've found that there are two points in which you could mentally be derailed from accomplishing something big.
1. During a "slump" or struggle in the height of your season
2. During the late fall/winter months as indoor season gets underwayT
his may or may not apply to some people, but as I've reflected on my training and spoke with others, there seems to be a common denominator with the above listed. Personally, one of the most powerful things an athlete can do during these times is become mentally strong. Visualization is key. Seeing and believing that, as an athlete, you are capable of accomplishing feats that some don't believe you can do - and perhaps what you yourself denies you can do. Additionally, pushing through injuries, cold winter months and continuing togh practice as your training partners/peers get to compete at indoor events can be a bit troublesome at times. However, take this time to SEE yourself be successful.
Allowing a few minutes every day to focus on what will make you a better javelin thrower. Visualizing a progression of throws that build up to a personal best or a qualification mark. Go back and watch your video from practice and meets. You can even watch other competitors as they may do something technically "better" than you in which you may be working to improve. Believing, seeing and understanding your mind and body is just as important as the reps you put in on the runway and the kilos you lift in the gym.
