In just over a week, I plan to open up my season at the track where I do my training. I tend to treat this meet as a "glorified practice" and have a home court mentality. Since I plan on competing later into the season, I will still work on some technical points but have a strong opening mark in the back of my mind. As of now, I have been focusing a lot on translating power from med balls and drills into my throws. Weight training is still in my routine 3-4 days a week but at this point the focus is to maintain and not build more strength - the base was built in the winter and off season.
For now, positions equal power and translating the hard work and drills from the past six months into a competition is in order. My goal is to go out and have fun, apply my technique and strength into a mark that will set the tone for the rest of a successful season.
Throwing is not just a physical task but a mental challenge. You have to BELIEVE you can throw far before you do.
