Competing with top athletes at competitions such as USA Nationals can be stressful, exciting, and a rush. Last year was my first year traveling to Albuquerque, New Mexico to compete at the USA indoor track and field nationals. Even though I did not throw as far as I liked I finished top 9 and proceeded to practice and continue to strive to be at the top for outdoor season. A few weeks ago I competed at my second indoor USA Nationals in New Mexico. Even though I finished top 9, I still had a thirst for more. After competition it was more of a bitter sweet feeling because I did not finish as high as I had liked, but I threw 3 feet further than I did the previous year during the same competition. After competing in New Mexico, I took a week off to rest and now its time to get back in the grind and qualify for USA Outdoor Nationals. This year the committee eliminated the B standard for USA championship competitions so now I have to hit the A Standard to qualify. Last outdoor I went 17.37m and qualified with the A Standard and now this year the A standard is 17.40m. I have no doubt that I am capable of hitting the qualification mark if not further. This outdoor season my goal is to have fun and keep improving. As my strength continues to increase I will increase my time to improve my form and take more time out of my week to actually practice, practice, practice. Form work is essential when it comes to throwing in any event. Form and strength can be two important components to becoming a successful thrower.
